The purpose of PeakOilResources.com to be a clearinghouse of information that you can use to make informed decisions on Peak Oil. There is a myriad of mixed information and opinion out there, so it would be imprudent at best to rely on a single source to determine how you think things will play out. The main thrust of the information contained here will be news, articles, and reviews. NEWS Our news is geared towards delivering only the so-called "mission critical" information. Many do not have the time to pour over various and related news items endlessly. Rather, most often have a few minutes to keep abreast of this topic. Therefore, our editorial policy of what is posted is to keep it simple and avoid redundancy, unless a given situation warrants multiple news links. Additionally, in order for this news to be of value, you must develop the ability to perceive the implications of news items on a national and global scale. For example, some thought that the 2008 floods in the Midwest of the United States were a disaster limited to only to that general locale. In reality, the fact that millions of acres of farmland are likely out of commission for the entire 2008 growing season (at least) will likely lead to food shortages and rising costs. These effects could continue into 2009 depending on the severity and amount of long-lasting damage. Thinking comprehensively in this manner will serve you well in the future. Just be thinking "What are the big picture implications...?" ARTICLES Items linked to under the Articles section have a more lasting importance and are not considered to be time sensitive. Stories on preparation are a good example. REVIEWS Finally, there will be a myriad of book and related reviews. These cover your standard Peak Oil related reading as well as other items of interest to the Peak Oil-aware. For example, in addition to traditional gardening books, I am currently working on an agricultural section dealing with viticulture and wine making. Everyone needs a profession and if the post-peak situation pushes society towards a more sustainable model of agriculture and society, this could be a valuable skill. The specific foci of these reviews may vary with interests, but the core guiding standard is that it is relevant to Peak Oil. That is our general philosophy here at PeakOilResources.com. Comments and suggestions are welcome via email. Please check back often as updates will be made daily. |
