IPN has worked with the Red Cross, Center for Disease Control, New York City Police Department, and other organizations to train thousands domestically and overseas to prevent and respond to emergencies and disasters.

PREPAREDNESS NOW! provides information and techniques that can help mitigate the destructive effects of disasters, whatever the cause. With illustrations, photographs and step-by-step instructions, this manual delivers practical advice on:

The 72-hour emergency kit Water quality control and storage Emergency shelter, power, lighting, and heating Emergency transportation, communications, and evacuation Chemical, biowarfare, and nuclear preparedness Defense against infectious diseases Personal defense and crime prevention

Peak Oil Resources Review:

Edwards is presented as an expert on disaster readiness.  This is made readily apparent in this book.  It in some ways it reminded me of the Boy Scout handbook in that the advice that Edwards give is good and solid, but at times oversimplified.  Nonetheless, I love his suggestion for having what he calls an E-kit.  This similar to a go-bag, or bug-out bag, but with a greater amount of practical what-if tools and implements.  Moreover, the list of items to carry involves a multitude of options based on price and effectiveness.  This is extremely helpful since not everyone can afford to spend what a completely dialed-in E-kit would cost.  This style of writing is repeated in various sections of the book and doing so is a great way to filter through the myriad of choices faced by someone who may be awfully green in this area of life.

Unlike other readiness books that I have read and reviewed, this text covers more ground than any other.  It also had more resources than any other.  And if you are gadgety in any way, then many of the resources and implements to consider will leave a resounding "Cool!" in your head.  This is a great book that takes you to the next step, but be warned...it will create a hunger in you to know about and prepare for more and more situations that you may have not considered.
