Crude Impact: Documentary DVD

From the Producer of Crude Impact:

Crude Impact is a powerful and timely story that explores the interconnection between human domination of the planet and the discovery and use of oil.

This new documentary film exposes our deep-rooted dependency on the availability of fossil fuel energy and examines the future implications of peak oil - the point in time when the amount of petroleum worldwide begins a steady, inexorable decline.

Journeying from the west African delta to the heart of the Amazon rainforest, from Washington to Shanghai, from early man to the unknown future, CRUDE IMPACT chronicles the collision of our insatiable appetite for oil with the rights and livelihoods of indigenous cultures, other species and the planet itself. A thought-provoking story of discovery, sorrow, outrage, humor and ultimately, hope.

Peak Oil Resources Review:

Consider the effects of the political clout that oil companies wield... how have they and how will they affect foreign policy, war, peace, the environment...?  This documentary on Peak Oil examines those questions in ways that may well leave you astounded at the atrocities that may have been performed or sanctioned by Big Oil.  There are elements to this film that will leave you speechless.

To watch this documentary is a difficult thing to do.  This is not because it is a poorly done film.  Rather, while you may expect this to be a film that challenges you, you may not expect or have known of some the darker elements surrounding oil companies and the way that they may operate.  This film is more than the evils done unto others however.  It is indeed about the dependence on oil that a scarce few think about.  I myself used to be one of them.  When presented with the facts and details surrounding our dependence on this critical resource, one cannot help but to in some measure ascent to what is proposed.  This film, as is the nature of films versus books, manages to gloss over important details that could be found in some of the classic Peak Oil texts.  It presents something of a broad overview of the issue, which I think is a great starting point to share with folks who are new to the Peak Oil concept.  Additionally, if you are like me, and want/need to consume everything Peak Oil related, this is a great documentary to start with... pictures being worth their weight in words...
